چکیده

Ultrasonic measurements are used in civil engineering for structural health monitoring of concrete infrastructures. The late portion the ultrasonic wavefield, coda, is sensitive to small changes elastic moduli material. Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI) correlates these coda with wavefield recorded intact, or unperturbed, specimen reveal amount velocity change that occurred. CWI has potential detect localized damages and global reductions alike. In this study, sensitivity different types mesostructures their damage levels investigated numerically. Realistic numerical models generated, evolution simulated using discrete element method. virtual lab, propagated from one transducer a realistic source signal at second transducer. Different scenarios slope decorrelation waveforms observed reduction velocities Finally, impact possible generalizations findings discussed, recommendations given application scale.

The theory of coda wave interferometry

Coda waves are sensitive to changes in the subsurface because the strong scattering that generates these waves causes coda waves to repeatedly sample a limited region of space. Coda wave interferometry is a technique that exploits this sensitivity to estimate weak changes in the medium from a comparison of the coda waves before and after the perturbation. Here I present the general theory of co...

Material State Awareness for Composites Part I: Precursor Damage Analysis Using Ultrasonic Guided Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI)

Detection of precursor damage followed by the quantification of the degraded material properties could lead to more accurate progressive failure models for composite materials. However, such information is not readily available. In composite materials, the precursor damages-for example matrix cracking, microcracks, voids, interlaminar pre-delamination crack joining matrix cracks, fiber micro-bu...

Correcting for bias due to noise in coda wave interferometry

S U M M A R Y Coda wave interferometry (CWI) utilizes multiply scattered waves to diagnose small changes in a medium by using the scattering medium as an interferometer. Since the medium is usually stationary over the duration of a seismic experiment, different (non-overlapping) time windows in the coda allow for independent estimates of the medium perturbation. If the seismograms are contamina...

Time-lapse monitoring of rock properties with coda wave interferometry

[1] The coda of seismic waves consists of that part of the signal after the directly arriving phases. In a finite medium, or in one that is strongly heterogeneous, the coda is dominated by waves which have repeatedly sampled the medium. Small changes in a medium which may have no detectable influence on the first arrivals are amplified by this repeated sampling and may thus be detectable in the...

Coda wave interferometry for estimating nonlinear behavior in seismic velocity.

In coda wave interferometry, one records multiply scattered waves at a limited number of receivers to infer changes in the medium over time. With this technique, we have determined the nonlinear dependence of the seismic velocity in granite on temperature and the associated acoustic emissions. This technique can be used in warning mode, to detect the presence of temporal changes in the medium, ...
